VOLUME 2
Letters from the Zooniverse Volume II is here - consider this your official invitation to soak up the long-awaited arrival of spring.
As winter folds gently into this new season, we invite you to embrace the longer days, the warmer weather (hooray) and the beauty of Mother Nature through the months of March to May. Is there anything better than fresh daffodils, line-dried laundry and the promise of more daylight?
If you’re looking for a few lovely ways to honour that spring feeling, you’ve landed in the right place.
Here are 6 simple pleasures to enjoy with your tiny ones this season and beyond.1 Fly A Kite
Watch as the kite takes off, set free to roam in the open air. Listen to the wind travelling through its wings and the gentle hum of the line; tails flowing lazily as the sky exhales with a sigh and a flump back down to earth. Inevitably, the kite will fall, the wind will change but the beauty lies in that fleeting moment of magic - between us, the fresh air and the universe.
2 Go Cloud Gazing
Roll out a blanket and book yourself in for a family meeting with the clouds – what unexpected faces, shapes or animals can you spot overhead? Notice your stress dissipate as you reconnect with your surroundings and immerse yourself in the present moment.
3 Collect Fallen Petals
Head out into the garden or the local park to search for any fallen petals, confetti blossom, twigs, grasses and leaves to fashion into perfume, a gnome home or a forest bouquet with twine. Sit down and talk about your discoveries and delights over a picnic in the garden.
4 Set Off On A Woodland Walk
Lean into the art of noticing; of pausing to see what new life has begun again. Listen out for the blackbird’s cheery early morning chorus, note the smells and textures at your fingertips as you tread through the wild woodland, dappled with soft March light. Spot the flowers as they emerge from winter’s embrace. What other whispers of spring can you see as the hope of a new season stirs? Why not note them down in a journal or a sketch book.
5 Hunt For Ocean Treasure At Low Tide
Gather shells along the shore, ask your little ones what creatures they imagine had lived in there, or perhaps ask the ocean if she knows. Sort them by size, shape or colour or hold them up to your ears to listen to their stories. Let their imaginations lead the way!6 Start The Rose & Thorn Tradition
Spring is the perfect time to start something new and we love the rose and thorn (or peak and pit) tradition for rounding off the day with some meaningful family reflection. Not only does it foster genuine connection, open communication and gratitude for the little things but it’s also a great model for showing little ones that it’s ok to have ‘spiky’, challenging moments. You’re there and listening, in all weathers.
